Founded in 1898, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) was the first institution in the world dedicated to research and teaching in the field of tropical medicine.  

LSTM works in over 70 countries to fulfil its mission of improving the health of the world's poorest people, heling to bring research innovation and scientific breakthroughs from laboratory research to those most in need. 

LSTM’s estates are continuously expanding , which is being matched by ongoing investment in new talent, increasing staff numbers from 160 in 2001 to around 450 by 2015. 

LSTM's collaborations with governments; health ministries; universities and research institutions across the world have created and sustained a reputation as a centre of excellence with a research portfolio worth well over £210 million.
