Abstract

The simian parasite Plasmodium knowlesi is increasingly recognized as a cause of uncomplicated and severe human malaria in Southeast Asia and is now the most common cause of malaria in Malaysian Borneo. Although P. knowlesi is at least as likely to cause severe disease in adults as Plasmodium falciparum, little is known about its pathogenesis.
